We live in troubled times. However there have been countless points in history that were troubled times. The main difference it seems is that the US has never been so close to fascism. There were Nazis and fascists by the droves in the pre-WWII period, but when the war began that was the end of these movements.

The media are another problem. They aren't the media of my youth. They are now the voice of corporate America. To call them leftist or liberal is a joke, because these corporations are the most right wing of all, eager to avoid their share of taxes and to feed their greed in a very indiscriminate fashion. So are the media the enemy of the people? Yes if they represent corporate interests and don't serve the needs of the People, but No if they are independent. The latter is difficult to find.

One of the biggest issues with Trump is that his following either doesn't care, is willing to ignore, or supports his pathology. In any case it's a huge threat to democracy. Let's see if we survive this one.
