This is my experience. I would not have paid attention. In fact, my grandmother shared a great deal of wisdom with me that I only came to appreciate when I was in my late 50s.

Parents are just people, some are insightful and others are dolts. There is no guarantee that a parent will be a fount of wisdom.

I think that today we have a new picture because we have entered into a situation this world has never experienced. We have a plethora of people in their 20s and 30s who are dispensing their wisdom on social media with no real life experience, and they are teaching others all sorts of spiritual nonsense. It's always difficult to get through to a religious or dogma-saturated mind.
