This is an interesting article. I have been listening to UFO stories for decades and it seems there are a lot of people claiming to have not only seen UFOs, but also to have covered up information, interacted with aliens, and been abducted. There is also the typical class of nutjobs saying crazy stuff. I can say nothing more than “I do not know.” I have seen UFOs on at least two occasions, completely clear sightings, but I do not know anything more than the fact that I saw them.

It seems that UFOs exist, and if they do then someone, some thing, must be operating them. Many military experts and aviators in high places (pun sort of intended) have testified that there is a government cover-up and we've known about the existence of ETs for many decades.

While we could go on and on about cases such as Barney and Betty Hill, Bob Lazar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEWz4SXfyCQ), and others, it seems to me that the supposed alien intervention and revelation yet to come is today’s version of the messiah — some deus ex machina coming to save the day, uplift humanity, and instill a utopian way of life. I don’t buy it at all. Human beings will never evolve psychologically in the blink of an eye, not even in the blink of a century or two. What would it possibly take, for example, for the millions of people who voted a sociopathic megalomaniac into office and cheered the near-overthrow of their government to suddenly become compassionate, intelligent, insightful, and accepting of all people?

On the whole, human beings just don’t deserve credit when it comes to awareness and culpability. So, no to Grusch’s statement: “I hope this revelation serves as an ontological shock sociologically and provides a generally uniting issue for nations of the world to re-assess their priorities.”

No one’s uniting. If you read the comments under alien and UFO sightings you often see people warning about demons and devils and whatnot. Everything can be spun according to one’s religious worldview. If there actually comes a day when a UFO lands in broad daylight covered by the news media and Faux News, and aliens meet the press, it will certainly come as a shock to many people. Not only will the Christian right be shocked, but so will Neil Lagrasse Tyson and my friend Steve.

I think your statement really gets to the core of things: “We just want to stay in the boxes we start building for ourselves as soon as we learn how to walk and talk.” And some people’s boxes are much smaller than others’. And, most people have no idea they are in a box of their own making.
