Of wokeness, you wrote: “… it’s both ridiculous and admirable…” And this is the problem. We don’t know where to put it, because any logical, compassionate person cannot deny the long history of indifference to the suffering of others and refusing to recognize “the other” as important. On the other hand, wokeness has become one of the defining issues of political contention. And, ironically, wokeness has led to a new brand of divisiveness and hate. The thesis has quickly led to the antithesis.
Comedians such as Jerry Seinfeld have railed against the woke mentality and suffers from not being accepted for making fun of other people.
No doubt, we are living in an era of the microscope, but not the same microscope that discovered viruses, cells, and bacteria. This microscope looks so closely at the human condition that everything is up for discussion and argument. And this fact is driving people apart, if not a little crazy.
As I see it, one of the main problems with wokeness, other than its constant provocations, is that it assumes a type of acceptance that is beyond the capabilities of most people, especially the advocates of wokeness.
