It seems you have conflated Jews with Israel, and this is why there is so much antisemitism on campuses and elsewhere today. The other reason is because the Iranians and extremist Muslim leaders in the Middle East (the same ones who persistently accuse Israel of war crimes) have instituted a long-term strategy and action to defame and invalidate not only Israel as a nation, but also the Jewish people. And so many Americans have fallen for this. For the Iranians and radical Islamists it’s like shooting fish in a barrel, because they can count on the good nature of liberals to do their bidding. Among the protestors are confederates who are there to foment unrest and hate. So far it’s working. And so far the attention continues to be on Israel’s military actions but not on the atrocities committed by Hamas and Iran, which would qualify for war crimes except for the fact that Iran is fighting a war by proxy and Hamas is not a nation. There is no Palestine to charge with war crimes.

Beyond all this, unless you are familiar with the history of the Israel-American relationship you’ll miss the reason that, despite which party is in office, America will support Israel. This has to do with an exchange of military know-how and intelligence supplied by Israel to the US military and special forces, the technology that Israel supplies to America, Israel’s strategic position in a hostile region run by religious extremists, and so on. The latest US conflict with the Houthis is but one small example of the latter point.

It seems your article is like a bait-and-switch, intended or not. You begin by extolling the virtues and contributions of Jews to this world and then you conflate several issues to make an unsubstantiated point. If you want to state all that the Israeli leadership and military is doing then that’s a good start, but as with every single nation, including your own, it is an absurdity to make a generalization as if all citizens are represented by the extremism and wrongdoings of their leadership. This is true of the Israelis, British, Iranians, Americans, and others. The big difference here is that, for example, though the US is made up largely of Christians, Christians are not held liable for every atrocity and inhumane act perpetrated by the US; yet Jews, even according to your inferences, are to be held liable. This is, de facto, the antisemitism that you began to decry in your article.

If you are going to be fair about this issue, along with criticism of Israel’s military force then you would have to explore how this began on October 7th and the fact that hostages still remain in the hands of terrorists. I am wondering if those who were raped, tortured, beheaded, etc. were your own relatives and friends you might have a different feeling about all of this. And if you lived in Israel maybe you’d realize how many minority groups make up its populace and have their own thoughts about their government and their security. This is a very complex region — too complex to draw simple conclusions with a one-sided approach.
