I have studied psychopathy since 1978 when I was at the University of Florida. At that time there was a psychopathic murderer on the loose at a neighboring school. And then there was Ted Bundy who also became a serial killer where I went to school. And then there was the heinous murder of a six-year-old boy kidnapped from a mall in South Florida.

I wanted to understand this pathology.

And now we have a presidential candidate who checks on the boxes on Robert Hare's famous checklist that has long been the standard for assessing patients for psychopathy.

Trump is a sociopath if not a psychopath. The big problem is that his supporters do not see this. This is because these sorts of individuals are successful in fooling, cheating, lying to, and abusing people long before they wake up to who he is. For this reason so many people have said that we are teetering on fascism and the destruction of our democracy.

I recommend that every American review Hare's checklist and see how all of Trump's actions and sentiments are reflected there.
