I have been a writer my whole life and began a career as a writer 46 years ago. My professional career led me to advertising and PR articles. But the creative writing that I enjoy the most has led me to become a bestseller on amazon.com, the Wall Street Journal, and the NY Times. In thinking about why I write I have come to the conclusion that a real writer writes. That's all there is to it. It's something we are impelled to do and though it's great to be paid and published, it's not the reason I write. I am sure there are lots of people who feel the same inclination.
I do agree that the publishing industry isn't what it used to be since I was graduated from Journalism school. It's never been easy to find a publisher to take a chance on a writer, but now the question is What's the point when anyone can self-publish?
