Here are a few things I have realized about the AI intrusion into writing:
1. So far AI writing isn't that good. So far;
2. I used to own a PR-ad agency in Miami and we produced a lot of newsletters, ads, brochures, and that sort of thing. From 1979 to the early 90s things were humming along, but then came the personal computer and most of my clients suddenly thought they were now designers because they had the programs to create their own materials. I likened this to giving a novice some surgical instruments and then telling them they can perform operations just like a qualified, experienced doctor. Unsurprisingly, my clients couldn't design anything resembling professional quality because they weren't graphic artists. They started putting out terrible-looking and amateurish work. HOWEVER, the bottom line is that we lost a lot of income because people now BELIEVED they could create their own materials;
3. Writing is often about emotions and insights. AI has neither;
4. A big problem is that business people who are poor writers reach out to good writers to produce their work. Ironically, HOWEVER, since they are poor writers they usually cannot recognize how poor AI is. It's a matter of the Dunning-Kruger Effect. To see how poorly most people write all you have to do is scan the headlines on youtube, listen to AI voice tracks, and just listen to people speak. People can't spell well and there's a pandemic of ubiquitously misused words that even appear in the mainstream media.
