Even the experts have wrestled with trying to differentiate psychopathy from sociopathy. At one point they were considered by many to be the same. One example is to be found in Martha Stout's book, The Sociopath Next Door.

It seems to me that the difference is that a psychopath is born with a brain defect in the amygdala but the the sociopath's antisocial traits come from early childhood emotional trauma. It seems that Trump's father was very abusive and this may have led to his sociopathy.

In any case, the biggest problem is that millions of supporters are clueless about Trump's pathology and chalk it up to a brash guy who just wants to stir things up. This, of course, is a grave mistake.

Trump's pathology can be seen in everything he does and is reflected in his immaturity, immorality, disrespect, criminality, racism, lying, disloyalty, and so forth. It is all quite clear to see. Despite how many times these and other traits are pointed out to his followers it makes little difference to them as long as they can live vicariously through a guy who promises to be their savior.
