Do we still not have all these things you mentioned? Life is hell for many, many people right this moment. People are enslaved, tortured, raped, murdered, robbed, marginalized, and so on. So, no, there is no moral progress individually. Society sees highs and lows, but still struggles from the same issues due to the conditioned minds of individuals.

The basic contents of consciousness — all of the feelings, limitations, interests, selfish ideas, anger, hate, racism, misogyny, and so on — are as potent now as they have ever been. Each generation has successively passed down its trauma, abuse, and divisiveness.

It doesn't matter whether philosophers are ancient or current, because we are still dealing with the same issues; they are timeless.

Doesn't it seem a bit ethnocentric to say we have a better life as long as millions of others are suffering horribly?
