Being attentive to the I-am is staying with the feeling that you exist; in the present, right now, without qualifying or quantifying that reality. Conversely, being aware of objects takes us away from the I-am. This is not to say there is no value in attending to the breath or even being mindful; it's just that the I-am informs the mind that there is existence always and this same feeling or knowingness of existence can be carried into any other realm of reality, whether dreams, out of body experiences, a plant-based experience, or meditation. There is no purpose to remaining in the I-am, no objective.
