As with most of your articles, I always find a gem that seems to sum it all up. You wrote: "Trump the arch con artist has preyed on these conservative Christians’ authoritarian personalities."
You have outlined the problem, clearly and simply, though it is quite complex. Trump as I see him is a sociopath. He has all the traits and goes through all the predictable motions. So many liberals scratch their heads in disbelief wondering how anyone at all, let alone half the nation, could possibly vote for him. I have discovered several reasons:
1. The left is too far left and full of absurdities such as gender issues, use of new pronouns, claiming to be woke, and so on;
2. Trump is good for the economy;
3. Biden is too old
We can go on and on with these poor excuses, but they are real reasons nonetheless.
Having studied the Holocaust period for decades I had always wondered how the Germans allowed Hitler to rise to power and murder tens of millions of people. Now I know; it's easy to see how minds can be so twisted away from decency and compassion. People are in fear, but instead of offering love and kindness, Trump offers fuel, impudence, rudeness, disrespect, mockery, racism, and all the rest of what we used to consider antisocial, impossibly rude words and actions.
Now what are we to do about this tremendous problem other than hope and pray that it dies out and Trump lands in prison?
